A band coming to the UK to try and make it big is not a far-fetched dream, and it may become a reality for the Greek act Coretheband. Not content with their status at home and despite much media coverage, it appears they’re London bound. They have decided to bring their tour to the capital for only two dates, playing songs from their EP and their latest single.

The band

Coretheband is comprised of;

· Jacob Gale (frontman, guitar)

· Maxi Kabutz (drums, backing vocals)

· Sifis Lionakis (bass)

· Lefteris Theodorakis (guitar)

· Artemis Ksomeritakis (pads, synth, backing vocals)

The live performance

The bands performance was the last of the night [MIGHT BE BETTER TO SAY THEY WERE HEADLINING], having more of a catalogue to showcase on stage. The performance was definitely more upbeat compared to the rest of the ‘opening’ [WHY IN QUOTES? GET RID] acts, clearly more at ease in their element and in front of a crowd.

All the members had great stage persona, but their lead signer Jacob shined the brightest, interacting with the audience throughout. Their song selection was also a refreshing take on what they have achieved so far.

Sadly, the only downside of the performance was the venue’s sound issues and the lack of room on stage to move more and be more energetic. It was obvious this issue was not reflective of the bands skills but the venue’s fault.

The Interview

In an interview before their last London gig, they admitted their first gig didn’t draw the numbers they hoped for, but they still soaked up the experience and enjoyed putting on a show. They also revelled in the fact they were playing in the same venue where Muse played ‘Plug in Baby’ for the first time, Camden Assembly.

Despite an initial release date of March 23 for their debut album, Coretheband decided to postpone the release to carry on tweaking it in to a final product that represents exactly who they are and what they want. The time between their last EP release and writing for this album allowed them to change their processes and form a more cohesive project. The majority of their upcoming album was recorded in Germany last November, where they lived in their producer’s house.

It is clear from the release of their single Update that the experience in Germany had had an obvious maturing effect compared to previous work. The band said this was the first track they have uploaded where everyone contributed an equal amount into the music.

Their last EP had a more fun, energetic and pop feel compared to Update and they admitted their next project will be more mellow and indie-like. Some of the songs are a lot darker than what we expect from them. They have promised that we will be surprised by their debut album, and the 1975 electro pop feel of Update is not the recurring theme of their next project.

What next?

Their debut album still doesn’t have a release date set, but what we know so far is that there are supposed to be 11 tracks that make the project. They have summarized the theme of their work as being created with random thought processes and that they were not aiming for something in particular. However, we can expect the music to incorporate what they have experienced so far; from touring, live shows and the emotional state of each member.

They are also planning to be back in the UK around May and June to play some UK festivals.
