Here at Beats of London, we love jazz. Here are two venues we think you might like and are worthy of a visit.

Jazz has always been an incredible, diverse and original form of music, and now legends such as Louis Armstrong are strongly influencing modern day artists. Today in London we have some clubs that showcase some of the most talented Jazz artists in the world, making it a Mecca for lovers of the genre. Starting in New Orleans in the early 1900s, it’s known as the “original American art form”. It was a rebellion against structured, rigid forms of music. Jazz artists start with a general melody and then often freestyle to explore their way out of an infinite number of musical possibilities. As jazz spread around the world, it drew on different national, regional, and local musical cultures, which gave rise to many distinctive styles. London has some of the most successful and long running jazz clubs in the world. In such a diverse city, it makes sense that it would suit such a varied genre. Here we’ve compiled a list of some of the best venues in London and their upcoming events.

Ronnie Scott’s

Ronnie Scott’s is perhaps the most famous and well-loved jazz institution in London. Situated in the heart of Soho, its unassuming façade hides a plethora of incredible artists. Opened in 1959 by Jazz Saxophonist who gave his name to the venue, it has hosted artists such as Dick Morrisey and Ella Fitzgerald.

Upcoming events: Ruby Turner, Monday 19th February

Club 606

Club 606 is a well-kept secret. Located in a Fulham basement, it looks like the dodgiest of venues. But for those members in the know, its one of the best sources of good Jazz in the city. The location isn’t big, seating up to 100, but as you enjoy dinner there is a front line getting up close and personal with the artists.

Upcoming Events: Purdy, Wednesday 21st February

Purdy is a sultry singer who combines pop with jazz influences making her a great choice as an introduction into the genre. She’s influenced by Nina Simone and Nancy Sinatra.

Dirty Bones

This Kensington culinary institution has recently started providing its guests with fantastic live music. With its low lighting, retro gaming setups and a fantastic traditional american menu.

The food at Dirty Bones sounds simple until it is plated up in front of you; chicken and waffles, hot dogs or fish tacos. The food is excellent and
