From February 21st to the 5th March Bon Iver will be playing at the Hammersmith Apollo. This American indie folk band founded in 2006 by singer-songwriter Justin Vernon have produced iconic hits such as “Skinny Love” and “Flume”.
The name "Bon Iver" derives from the French phrase ‘bon hiver’ ("good winter"). It was chosen after Vernon spent three months in isolation recording the debut album, For Emma, Forever Ago in an icy cabin in north-western Wisconsin. The emotion and melancholic melodies are inspired by his depression following a messy break-up. However, fantastic things have come from his creative genius, and the band later won in 2012 the Grammy awards for Best New Artist and Best Alternative Music Album for their album Bon Iver. They released their third album 22, A Million which recieved critical acclaim in 2016. He even caught the attention of notoriously hard-to-please Kanye West, who collaborated with Vernon on “Lost in the World”, part of the album entitled My Beautiful Dark Twisted Fantasy which was released in 2010.
